Blog #14: My community is with those who are runners. Many people say we are crazy to run as many miles a do in a week, but we find beauty in the adrenaline rush from the run, in the effortless conversations brought on the hour long runs, and in the views that we encounter while on the run. While on a run, people find “thrill and enthusiasm” on sights such as these. In this way, we find them as beautiful experiences and are usually not able to be replicated. When going on a run, we never expect to see beautiful things or have wonderful conversations, we all just go out because we know we love doing it. Also, we do this when socially some would consider it absurd to run at as great lengths as we do. In his statement, Armstrong implies that this is how we find truly beautiful things that are not pre-coined by humanity. He highlights the idea that beauty is an “experience.” I think this is completely valid because there is much more to beauty than simply looks. It engulfs all five senses. On a run, beauty is not only in the view, but also in the pain we feel, the thumping in our chests, the smell of the outdoors, and the sounds of our surroundings. If one sense was left out of our feelings, there would be an aspect of beauty missing and the run would be off its normal course. The innocent joy and intense feeling runners get on their run is what causes us to make our efforts in our journey and in this we all discover beauty.
