Final Assignment Artifact Number 2: Foundations of Literacy:
Artifact Number 2: Interprofessional Simulation
Standard #10: “Leadership and Collaboration: The teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility for student learning, to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals, and community members to ensure learner growth, and to advance the profession.”
What is it?
This was a really cool assignment where we were given a case study of a struggling student and got to play the role of a teacher in a simulation. In this, we had to create a plan with a OT and Social Worker to best help the student succeed and effectively communicate this with a ‘parent’ over zoom.
Why did I choose this artifact and how does it demonstrate my learning?
The second artifact that I chose is the interprofessional simulation. This artifact focused the most on standard number ten. I enjoyed this assignment and learned a lot from it due to the collaborative and hands on component to it and the use of a case study. I think being able to read a case study and participate in a mock parent meeting was very important for me because I was able to really put myself in the shoes of a teacher and learn what I would be needing to do (and actually do it) with a student and his mother. The artifact relates to standard ten which is titled leadership and collaboration. With this assignment, we learned about the social work and occupational therapist job and how it relates to the teaching job and their roles in schools. We then learned how to effectively collaborate with them in a parent meeting which also directly relates to the language in the standard. Learning about the different roles in the school system and hearing from people who plan on having these jobs and do have these jobs was helpful because it made the classroom life more tangible and helped me understand what the roles of these individuals really is.
